    Mess Kit:
The Design of the Swiss Army Mess Kit aka "Gamelle", officially named "Einzelkochgeschirr Ordonnanz 1898",
was approved 02.07.1898 by the Swiss War Department and has slightly changed since then. The kidney shaped mess kit was made of aluminum and could hold 2.0 Liter of Food. The lid could be used as a pan and stuck in to the mess kit for cocking. The lid had a eyelet in the handle for better handling when over the fire. At the beginning the mess kits were lacquered black. After 1920 they were lacquered green. In 1943 all mess kits, canteens, helmets were over painted grey. Post WWII mess kits were black again. The transport handle could be swiveled 360° after 1990 only 270°. This Mess Kit was made by "BT" (Brügger+Thomet) in 1941 and the lid by "MB" in 1940. Show some minor paint loss, some use and wear, small dents as shown.
