Vintage 1930's Dentist Chair, Ritter, Model B, Chrome, Steel, Caned, USA
This vintage dental chair was manufactured in the 1930's by Ritter Company Incorporated in Rochester, New York. Full of beautiful, vintage detail, the chair features gleaming chrome components, a vivid green enameled finish and sturdy construction.
The enameled, cast steel body of the chair includes multiple foot-controlled pedals and is affixed to a sturdy platform.
The chair, back, armrests and headrest are fully adjustable and upholstered in faux leather. The seat back is composed of upholstery upon a caned frame (shown in photos). The original manufacturer's plaque reads "Ritter Motor Chair, Manufactured by Ritter Company Inc., Rochester, N.Y., Made in the United States of America, Mod. B". Electrical detail is also noted on the plaque.
History: This Ritter Motor Dental Chair, model B, was manufactured in the late 1930's. When in operation, It was fast, smooth and quiet. It could be raised hydraulically by its motor in 12 seconds over the full range, and lowered against hydraulic pressure at any desired regulated speed.
This chair was salvaged from the historic Centre Square building in downtown Marion, Virginia as it was prepared for renovation. During the early 1950s, the Centre Square building was a favorite gathering place for recreational activities. It contained a bowling alley, theater, medical and dental offices, a photography studio, and a furniture store.
The salvage job was featured on the DiY Network show, "Salvage Dawgs", Season 6, Episode 9.
Condition: Very good for age and use! Gleaming chrome shows some surface scuffs and scratches. The enameled finish shows minor, expected surface scuffs and chips. Upholstery shows some cracks and holes. The chair has not been tested and is not guaranteed to function. Due to the age of the piece, the electronics and hydraulics will need maintenance before the chair could be operable. Most wiring will need replacement and hydraulic fluids will need to be topped off.
