    Description

This coin was issued under King
    Sangrama Deva
    (
    1003-1028
    AD) in
    First Lohara
    Dynasty,
    Kingdom of
    Kashmir
    ,
    in northern-end India.
    In the eight century,
    Karkota Empire
    established themselves as
    rulers of Kashmir
.  Kashmir grew as an imperial power
under the Karkotas.  After demise of Lalitaditya Muktapida, Kashmir's influence over other kingdoms declined and the dynasty
    ended in circa
    855-856
    AD.
    Utpala dynasty
founded by Avantivarman followed the Kakrotas.  His successor
    Shankaravarman
(885-902 AD) led a successful military campaign against Gurjaras inn Punjub.
    Political instability
in the 10th century made the
    royal body guards (
    Tantrins
) very powerful in Kashmir.  Under the Tantrins, civil administration collapsed and
    chaos reigned
    in
Kashmir till they were defeated by
    Chakravarman
    (923-937 AD).
    Queen Didda
, who descended from the Hindu Shahis of Kabul on her mother's side,
    took over as the ruler
    in second half
    of the
    10th century
.  After her death in 1003, the throne passed to the
    Lohara dynasty
    .
    King Samgrama Deva
    is considered as
    the founder of Lohara dynasty,
    He was able to
    repulse several attacks
of Mahmud of Ghazni against Kashmir, and he also supported ruler Trilochanapala against Muslim attacks.
